Flamsbana Railroad

The electric train in Flam is called the Flamsbana.  It starts in the town of Flam  and runs 20 kilometres up to the town of Mrydal.  A return trip costs 400 Norwegian Krone and is the third most popular tourist attraction in Norway.

Here's the view of the train and station from the cruise ship.

Waiting for the 8:35 am train to depart.

The train cars had large panoramic windows and some could be opened for picture taking.  Many of the homes in the mountains had giant waterfalls in their backyards.

There was a ten minute stop at the Kjosfossen waterfall. There was a lot of mist and spray from the waterfall, so the pictures weren't as clear as misterpiggy wanted, but he did get to try out the telephoto zoom feature of his new lens.   A mysterious red robed female figure danced on the ruins at the waterfall.  Some Norwegian legends say she is a forest creature who would lure men to seduce and kill them in the olden days.

Good to know that these days, they are just local ballet students entertaining the tourists.

With a ten minute stop at the waterfalls and a short stay at the end terminus of Mrydal, the entire trip only took about two hours getting misterpiggy back into the town of Flam by 10:30 am.
